In short, what is thalassotherapy?

According to the official definition, "thalassotherapy is the simultaneous use under medical supervision for preventive or curative purposes of the benefits of marine elements". Therapeutic treatments are based on seawater and its derivatives: mud, sand, trace elements, minerals, etc.

What are the indications for a thalassotherapy treatment?

The marine environment is a privileged place for functional rehabilitation: post-traumatic and post-operative treatment, problems with rheumatism, back pain, heavy legs. The weight of a subject being two and a half times less in seawater than in fresh water, muscular work is reduced and the stresses exerted on the load-bearing joints are minimal. Thalassotherapy thus promotes better mobility, while relieving pain. The marine climate acts thanks to its richness in negative ions and iodine.

Heated seawater allows trace elements, especially sulfur, cobalt, fluorine, phosphorus and above all calcium, magnesium and potassium, to pass into the body, acting on bone consolidation and muscle strengthening. Problems of neck pain (stiff neck), stress, insomnia, hormonal factors and fatigue can be favorably alleviated by thalassotherapy.

Other indications

Weight loss. A serious course of treatment can lead to a loss of one to three kilos in a week, and, above all, to adopting good habits. Iodine increases thyroid function, which accelerates the entire metabolism, especially fat breakdown. Through the physical and physiological action of marine treatments, thalassotherapy, to which localized treatments such as lymphatic drainage can be added, is recommended for treating cellulite.

Thalassotherapy is for anyone who wants to maintain their health.

Formal contraindications

Dermatoses (mycological infections, infectious, viral or weeping dermatitis), iodine allergy, hyperthyroidism, skin diseases (with the exception of psoriasis), structural or acute psychiatric disorders (psychoses, schizophrenia...).

What is the difference between a sauna and a hammam?

Whether it is of oriental tradition (the hammam, moist heat, 40°) or of Finnish origin (the sauna, dry heat, 70°), the moist or dry heat bath makes you sweat and eliminates many toxins. Relaxing and purifying, they help relieve stress, relax muscles and promote sleep.

The benefits of sauna and hammam

The heat bath has undeniable relaxing properties. For some, it promotes the natural balance between body and mind. Practiced regularly, it strengthens our resistance to all kinds of aggressions: stress, infections, heat, cold, etc.

The steam of the hammam, moreover, clears the respiratory tract and helps to fight effectively against colds and coughs.
The sauna, on the other hand, has a beneficial effect on muscle pain, rheumatism, muscle tension, nervousness and eliminates toxins.

Contraindications

In cases of heart failure, acute infections (flu or tuberculous bronchitis) or malignant tumors, sauna and hammam are strongly discouraged.
